Uber den Künstler

Cees Bantzinger was a Dutch painter and draftsman from Gouda who studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Amsterdam, where he developed his interest in drawing models in real life. Four years later, Bantzinger debuted as illustrator for 'De Groene Amsterdammer', a well-known Dutch weekly magazine. Soon after, Bantzinger went to the State Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam where he followed classes in his part time. Meanwhile, Bantzinger traveled through Europe, visiting France, Italy and Switzerland, where he became acquainted with Bauhaus. Bantzinger found his main inspiration in Asian pencil drawings and the works of El Greco, Goya and Rembrandt. Well in his forties, Bantzinger was tutored by Kokoschka in Salzburg, after which he traveled through India, Portugal, Israël, Japan, and numerous other countries. After a journalist discovered and revealed that Bantzinger had been part of the National Socialist Movement in the Second World War, he committed suicide in 1985.
