Uber den Künstler

Henk Helmantel is a Dutch painter who was born in Westeremden on 22 February 1945. His parents owned a nursery garden and were faithful Christians. After studying painting at the Academie Minerva in Groningen from 1961 to 1965, he settled in his native village Westeremden. Thereafter he moved to the new parsonage next to the Andreaskerk. His style is realistic and he paints still-lifes, historical church interiors and monasteries. Christianity and Rembrandt are important sources of inspiration in his work. Helmantel's work is included in the collection of the Groninger Museum, among others. He has had exhibitions in Amsterdam, Assen, Zeist and Groningen.
