- Über KunstwerkTwo sizes, clear lead-crystal glass, cut and surface polished Art-objects / sculptures “Sydän” (Heart), model 3557 with steam blown interior.
Designed by famous Finnish artist Timo Sarpaneva in 1953 and executed by Iittala glassworks in 1957. These vases were made in only two sizes so this is a early complete set and also matched in year of production (1957).
Both Heart sculptures are fully marked underneath the base in diamondpen: Timo Sarpaneva – Iittala – 57 (1957).
About Timo Sarpaneva
Timo Sarpaneva (Helsinki, Finland 1926 – Helsinki, Finland 2006) was an influential Finnish designer, sculptor, and educator best known in the art world for innovative work in glass.
While glass remained his most commonly addressed medium, he worked with metal, wood, textiles, and porcelain (china).
His work was among the key components that helped to launch Finland’s reputation as a trailblazer of design.
Recipient of many rewards, among others: The Luning prize (1956), Grand Prix Triennale di Milan (1954, 1957) and Gold medal, Concorso Internazionale della Ceramica d’Arte Contemporanea, Faenza (1976).

Condition
These art-objects are in good vintage condition, some minor scratches consistent with age and use. The larger one has a small "snakebite" on the side. No cracks or chips.

Timo Tapani Sarpaneva (31. Oktober 1926 – 6. Oktober 2006) war ein einflussreicher finnischer Designer, Bildhauer und Pädagoge, der in der Kunstwelt vor allem für seine innovative Arbeit mit Glas bekannt war, die oft Attribute von Ausstellungskunstobjekten mit nützlichen Bezeichnungen verband.
Während Glas sein am häufigsten angesprochenes Medium blieb, arbeitete er mit Metall, Holz, Textilien und Porzellan (Porzellan). Sarpaneva ist durch sein industrielles Design hochwertiger, künstlerisch konzipierter Gegenstände, darunter Kochgeschirr aus Gusseisen und Geschirr aus Porzellan, in Haushalte auf der ganzen Welt eingedrungen.
Seine Arbeit gehörte zu den Schlüsselkomponenten, die dazu beitrugen, Finnlands Ruf als Vorreiter des Designs zu begründen.
